For the project Die Migranten, the House of World Cultures is seeking Participants from migrant backgrounds
Between June 2008 and June 2009 Cuban artist Tania Bruguera carries out the project Die Migranten at the House of World Cultures. Tania Bruguera is internationally renowned for her work as a performance artist. She was born in Cuba in 1968 and lives in Chicago and Paris. Her work, through which she has been invited to numerous exhibitions and biennials all over the world, merges art with society. Tania Bruguera has been head of an art school in her home town of Havana for five years.
For Die Migranten we are looking for participants who will together with Tania Bruguera work on a socio-political art project. The project’s aim is to give migrants in Europe a strong voice using the strategies that will be devised in regular meetings.Throughout the year, various workshops each lasting several days will take place along with round tables joined by experts. Also, a living archive will be set up which will be open to the public. The participants are invited to bring personal documents, objects and photographs that relate to their migration history.
People from all nations and of all ages are invited to call or email to sign up for the work with Tania Bruguera. The workshops are in English and will be translated. Refreshments will be provided. Participation in the workshops is free of charge.
